If you know about a facility in need...someone that desperately requires a helping hand with anything from food and clothing to extra staff, please have them contact me or download and complete the facilities' questionnaire in the file link below.
Upon receipt of the completed form, I will create a separate page for the facility on this website. The purpose being to increase web exposure for those in need. I've found that, sometimes, these impoverished creches, schools, places of safety and care homes are right under our noses, without our knowledge. Perhaps if more people knew about them, they will get more assistance in the form of donations, volunteers, etc.

More donations shared

The Ilze Halliday Foundation - Blog

Annah Ndlovu (pictured left) from Madzibandlela Orphanage in Soshanguve, picked up her donations today. She also agreed to take educational toys and stationery, previously donated by Tanya Pegram, with, so that Busisiwe Ramathoka from Odinberg Community Center in Mabopane can pick it up from her tomorrow. Both facilities still need plenty of stuff...food and educational supplies remain an issue and, with the winter around the corner, blankets and warm clothing are high on their priority list.

The children at Odinberg, for instance, have no proper mattresses to lie on during nap-time; they sleep on the cold, hard cement floors of their classrooms. Both Madzibandlela and Odinberg takes care of children aged 0 to grade R, but have no proper school equipment like black/white boards, overhead projectors or sufficient supplies of paper/pens/pencils/crayons/other educational tools. Books for reading are in short supply and it is a struggle for the teachers who are desperately trying to prepare these youngsters for primary school.

The following donations found their way to Annah and Busisiwe today:

Clothes, linen, teddy bears and straightening irons- received from the team at El Pelo Studio in Magalieskruin
Educational supplies from Tanya Pegram (specifically for Odinberg)
Appliances, cricket sets, clothing, linen and educational supplies from Karin Spykerman.

I want to thank all these generous donors. Without you, my work will not be possible at all. Your kindness will go a long way towards making life easier for these dedicated people at the facilities.

Karin gives again - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

Another donation from loyal supporter, Karin Spykerman.

Today we were blessed with receiving appliances, clothing, linen, manuscript books and other educational supplies. She also gave us two cricket sets (specifically for Madzibandlela Orphanage Home). She told me that she hopes this will inspire some of the kids to play cricket and, perhaps, become BIG in South African sport.

Her words reminded me of something....how we can change the future of one unfortunate, needy child in the world just by giving something small. Your gestures don't have to be big, your donations not millions of rand and the goodies, not truckloads full....one cricket set can make a champion, one pencil a bestselling author, one book can teach someone to read....you CAN make a difference.

The question is....will you DARE to try?

Ditebogo picks up El Pelo donation - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

This morning Onicca Hlabela, the principal of Ditebogo Daycare and Lerato La Mme Orphanage in Kekana Gardens, Hammanskraal, got a team of young men together and they picked up the generous donation of clothing, towels and blankets made by Marinda Deysel and her team from El Pelo Studio in Magalieskruin, Pretoria. Onicca was SO grateful for these and wanted me to thank the donors on her behalf...so, this is for YOU guys...Marinda, Cindy, Dora and Guiseppe...

Onicca usually sorts through the clothing items and uses the children's clothes for the orphanage (mostly abandoned...some of them already in their teens). The towels and blankets will also come in handy at the orphanage and will also be used at the daycare during nap-time. The rest of the clothes will be sold piece by piece to people within their community to bring in some much needed cash for Ditebogo. Their monthly fee per child is R 50-00...and even then some of the parents cannot manage it.

Onicca feeds nearly 470 children from ages 0 to 18 on a daily basis. She has a support staff that needs to be paid salaries and, apart from the food (she has become quite self-sufficient - planting fruit trees and growing vegetables of her own), they also have to buy water...two large JoJo tanks per week is just enough to supply drinking water for the kids. There is only a little water used during bath time....Ditebogo has NO running water. The daycare provides a source of education and extra-curricular activities like music, art, drama and dancing...for that they also need funding and educational equipment, tools and supplies.

This morning she mentioned that, if I place her photo on the web, I need to ask forsomeone to help them with the water issue. So, if anyone can help them with the installation of a borehole and pump...it will really help a lot. Buying water, like they are doing now, costs them more than R 4000-00 per month....and then they barely have enough.

Nearly done with website!!! - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

As you know, I've been busy with the final touches to IHF-website. Now, I've been doing it for a while, in between updating the blog (the only page on this site that I felt happy about, anyway), I've been planning and scheming and trying new things to place on site. It is an arduous job, doing it on my own...but I've learned a lot in the process, so I'm not complaining.

Very soon you will be invited to check out the brand new site for the Ilze Halliday Foundation. Here are some things I've been working on and what you can look forward to:

El Pelo does it again! - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

Once again I've been blessed with a donation from the loyal team at El Pelo Studio. Thank you very much Marinda, Cindy, Guiseppe and Dora for your support. I would also like to thank their clients that contribute to their efforts.

Remember about the Winter Warmer Kits that I asked for in an earlier post. Help me to keep the needy warm by donating blankets, instant soup and mugs. I presented a great webinar this week with @4good and Nonprofit Webinars, and I am happy to share it with you here.

Summary: There is no doubt that visuals are driving online communications in 2014. Our minds react differently to visual content.

On Facebook, videos are shared 12X more than links and text posts combined. 42% of all Tumblr posts are photos. On YouTube, 100 million users are taking a social action on videos every week. 36% of all shared links on Twitter are photos!
