Thank you El Pelo Studio - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

Thank you El Pelo Studio - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

My thanks to Marinda Deysel and Cyndi Dias from El Pelo Studio in Magalieskruin for donating clothing. I hope to have it delivered to Odinburg Community Centre within the week. I will keep you updated on developments.

Also remember the Winter Warmer Kits I've asked for earlier in the week. I have, as yet, not received any response and I would like to have some of it packed and ready for distribution in mid-April...well before the winter hits our part of the world.

March has been 'clothing month' and the donation from El Pelo was the only one I've received. Tanya Pegram also answered my request for educational toys for Odinburg and I have received a donation from Pieter Halliday (a regular donor and my brother) of R 500-00, which will go toward purchasing food for Ikaneng Drop-in and Daycare. Photo's will be put on the website as soon as the items have been delivered, so look out for those.

I thank all my benefactors from the bottom of my heart....without you I won't be able to help these people. Remember that no donation is too small....anything will do for those in need, as they have nothing. Your donation can make a huge difference in someone's life, even if you think it is mediocre. I believe that big things have small beginnings....and every good thing you do, will eventually snowball into something greater and better.

If you consider donating to this cause, please send me your information by clicking here.

Winter Warming Kit - Donate NOW!

The Ilze Halliday Foundation - Blog

Winter is on its way, friends, and I'm trying to put together some donations that I can share among the facilities I service. If we all pull together on this, we can help to keep some families a little bit warmer this winter.

Most of my facilities have no electricity, hence no heaters or air conditioners. They boil water for meals on gas stoves or open fires....if they have the means to purchase gas and wood, that is. The schools have no carpets on the floors and children have to sit on the bare, cold cement. Some of these schools have no proper classrooms...they make do with tin huts, which can become freezing cold in the dead of winter.

According to 'The guardian' (http://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2013/nov/26/excess-winter-deaths-up-29) deaths caused by extreme cold have increased during the past winter in Europe with 29%. You do remember the freezing conditions experienced in the Northern hemisphere during the past winter, don't you? Well, what if we, here in South Africa, are also in for such a freak freeze? So many homeless people, so many people living in shacks around the country and few of them with the financial means or the savvy to keep warm. It is our job to take care of those.....we with our nice heated homes and electric blankets; we can make proper meals on a proper stove, buy warm clothes for ourselves and our families.....most of these people cannot even get to the shop, and anyway, they have no money to buy anything. Would you like your family member or your child to be in that position? I don't think so. If you then, can find it in your heart to donate something this winter.....make up just one kit...you will make someone, somewhere very happy indeed. And who knows, you may even be responsible for saving a life this winter.

The kits consist of just three items:

  1. A blanket (second hand is fine)
  2. A plastic cup or beaker
  3. A packet of instant soup

You pack all these in a plastic shopping bag and give me a call (click for contact details) or e-mail by clicking here. You can also click here to complete the contact form. I will make arrangements for pick-up/delivery.

Educational supplies donated - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

Educational supplies donated - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

A big thank you to Tanya Pegram, a regular donor to my facilities, for these educational supplies. You will remember that, a few weeks back, I received a request from Odinburg Community Centre for educational toys and supplies....well, I already contacted Busisiwe Ramathoka, the headmistress, and she'll be collecting the items on Tuesday!

Thank you also to my son, Remond, who was kind enough to drive out to Tanya's to pick up the donation this morning.

Keep it coming people! I still need a washing machine (any type) and even more educational supplies. Madzibandlela Orphanage still needs school uniforms and then, of course, as you may recall, there is the winter warmers. If you have old blankets or winter clothing, please contact me. The cold days are upon us (I know it doesn't feel like it, but believe me, it's coming!).

    A message from God...

Winter warmers wanted NOW - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

Winter warmers wanted NOW - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

I know it is still full summer here in the South, but winter is around the corner, people, and many of us will soon be going through our cupboards to make sure we have enough blankets, sweaters and other winter things. Some of us (like myself) will also use this opportunity to clear out the old summer stuff to make room for the new warmer clothes.

Before you throw away old clothes, throws and blankets (even if it doesn't look all that good anymore) click here to e-mail me or click here for my other contact details. I will collect if possible. Remember, your stuff may seem old and worn to you, but someone out there may still find it very useful. Having a torn, but warm, blanket on a cold winter night is far better than having none at all and washed out clothing may still have enough wear left in them to cover a chilled body.

If you feel you'd rather contribute funds so that I can purchase something for the needy, please do so. Click here for account details. Make sure you mark the deposit 'WinterWarm'. These will then be used to buy blankets and food for distribution.

You can also complete the contact form with 'Winter Warmers' in the subject line.

    Thank you very much.

FACILITIES NEEDED - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

FACILITIES NEEDED - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

Help me to help others.....I need names and contact details of facilities (orphanages, creche's, day-and after-school care, homes for the needy and disabled, places of safety, even old age homes for the needy) in and around Pretoria, South Africa. If you know of any, please click here for my contact form and send me the details (name of facility, contact person, telephone number and e-mail). Perhaps I can encourage them to register for our annual shoebox drive or I can just add them to my database, in case something is donated that can help them in some way.

REMEMBER....POVERTY KNOWS NO BOUNDARIES....ALL RACES, RELIGIONS, AGES ARE INCLUDED.

I will ask these places for a full description of their mission, as well as investigate their needs, etc, so they will definitely be selected very carefully.

You can also send an e-mail by clicking here.

For applying for Santa Shoebox Project 2014, please click here to go directly to the website or read the information by clicking here.

    Thank you.
