URGENT: Santa Shoebox needs specific items - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

URGENT: Santa Shoebox needs specific items - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

This is an urgent request to all volunteers and members of the public to support our team during drop-off month.

In order for us to do a good job at the drop-off points, we need certain items.
Remember: it is all about the children...they must get shoeboxes that really catch the eye...the box must, not only be filled with wondrous things, it must look good as well. We know that you will pack and cover your box with love and care, but some boxes do get some damage during transportation...that is why we need all these extra things to re-cover a box if the paper tore off by accident, to fix a damaged box, to properly attach your labels, to keep the lid tightly on with a firm elastic band. The ziploc bags will be used to seal any liquids in the boxes, so that it doesn't damage the other items you've added with so much care and consideration....you can imagine the monumental task this can be and how impossible it will become if you do not support us.

So, if you can sponsor or donate any of the following, please contact me immediately at tel: +27 72 436 0562 or click here to email me.

The items are:

  • sellotape
  • Christmas gift wrap
  • elastic bands
  • Ziploc bags (large or medium)
  • glue
  • empty boxes

Of course, as always, I scream...PLEDGE, PLEDGE, PLEDGE atwww.santashoebox.co.za or send me a note if you want to find out how else you can help us. Click to contact me.

BUT DO SO NOW!!! THE CLOCK IS TICKING, PEOPLE!!

Trolleys for Santa Shoebox drop-off - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

Trolleys for Santa Shoebox drop-off - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

On this very hot summer's day, the little elves and me collected trolleys kindly offered to us by Ronel Dixon (her of the generous toy donation recently mentioned in an earlier post). This loan will help us to transport the boxes easily from one station to another on drop-off days.
Now the volunteers will not have to lug the nearly 3000 expected boxes around in their arms...they can just pack and push!!
Of course this is not the only trolleys we'll have on the day....Ronel promised more that will be collected closer to the time. (One huge sigh of relief for THAT!! I have nowhere to store them at home!)
Speaking of Santa Shoebox....we still NEED MORE PLEDGES!!! PLEASE PEOPLE....go to the Santa Shoebox website , register and pledge or contact me NOW to find out about other ways to help.

Thank you to my old school friend, Karin Spykerman for donating the lovely puzzle, kaleidoscopes, clay, pens and pencils. It will help to fill a child's shoebox this season.
And, of course, thanks to Isabel le Roux from the NG church Magalieskruin for her generous donation (also towards Santa Shoebox Project). With this I'll be able to pledge 10 boxes on your behalf.

SORTING DONATIONS - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

SORTING DONATIONS - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

In an earlier post I mentioned the generous donation by Ronel Dixon (the lady involved with Community Gardening in rural areas). I finally got around to sorting out the toys my friend Ursula so kindly allowed me to store at her place. Some of these will go towards supporting the Santa Shoebox project, while others (especially the puzzles, legos and sports equipment) will go to some of the facilities I help regularly. At the moment I'm busy cleaning all the soft toys (hence this invasion of teddies in my laundry room) in preparation for the final HUGE sorting of Santa Shoebox stuff lying in wait somewhere else in my house (I SO wish I had more storage space!)
The rest of the week will see me collecting trolleys from Ronel (she has about 12 supermarket trolleys at her storage facility), which will be used on drop-off days. In addition to this I'm planning to finish the sorting and boxing of fillers + I want to finish wrapping the empty shoeboxes I have...so, you see, no peace for the wicked!
Now, don't you start thinking that I'm complaining at all....I LOVE this work. That is the thing when you do something 'just because'....the feeling of fulfilment is indescribable. In moments like these I can do nothing but thank the Lord for sending me on this mission. I know I will never change the whole world....but knowing this doesn't mean I shouldn't try!

DO NOT DISAPPOINT THE LITTLE ONES!!!!

Remember, 9000 disadvantaged children are depending on our project to give them gifts this year, so do not wait....REGISTER ON www.santashoebox.co.za NOW!!!

What have we been up to? - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

What have we been up to? - The Ilze Halliday Foundation

What a week-end!!! But first things first...our Golf Challenge for Forever Angels Place of Safety has been cancelled (as I mentioned earlier on Facebook). This is unfortunate, but we are definitely not going to get discouraged about it!

This week-end saw mrs Dieketseng Gail Maphela-Poole having her birthday party at Forever Angels. This amazing lady decided to include more than 30 disadvantaged children in the festivities. She brought along a huge birthday cake and party packs for each child. Her friends were told NOT to bring gifts for her, but to bring donations that will be used to give these desperate children what they need NOW to grow and thrive. Not only did they bring goods, but they brought truckloads of love....something that these youngsters really need and which is, in my humble opinion, the most important gift you can give any child...disadvantaged or not.

The party was, to say the least, an enormous success. Thanks go to all the friends that brought donations and especially, of course, to mrs Maphela-Poole herself. I hope she had a wonderful birthday and that her new year will bring countless blessings, happiness and prosperity.

Gail did more than just get her friends to bring gifts for the children....she managed to get together people from all races in South Africa....all uniting in one purpose...to provide a better future for the children.

And, people, isn't THAT what it all is about? This foundation's motto is: 'Creating a culture of caring'.....that is my dream. To build a nation, concerned about the future of the children and uniting in efforts to reach out to the disadvantaged by setting an example of giving and caring. To me, that is the most important thing you can teach a child -  the art of giving, of caring.
